Fashion Trends
Spring 2008

The three key words for this Spring's fashion trends are
flirty, flowing and feminine. Colors are brighter, reflecting the true concept of spring and dresses are more prevalent this season, with a real mix of sophistication, a hint of 80's retro, and long floaty maxis reminiscent of the 60's and 70's. This year's New York Fashion Week at Bryant Park revealed some exciting and inspirational designs for Spring '08.

Styles & Fabrics

• Light airy dresses, maxi or mini, but the long dresses will continue to make their comeback. (Very versatile and forgiving)
• Color blocked dresses and tops continue to be popular with two or three colors.
• Off-the-shoulder looks vs. two-sleeved styles was a favorite ofMarc Jacobs and Michael Kors.
• Transparent fabrics were featured in many designer collections.
• Ombre, the distinctive dip dye fabric in which color gradually intensifies from dark to light. A bold, yet breezy look that hardly needs accessorizing.
•White suits - tailored white pantsuits brightened up the New York runways this season.
• Ruffles — the dramatic, flamenco-inspired trim takes a turn this season. Pastel shades of airy silk chiffon, turns any dress into a layered statement frock.
• One Shoulder Dress — the asymmetrical strap dress, a Studio 54-era staple, makes its return for spring.

Colors & Prints

Silver gray is the new black combined with muted neutrals and flesh tones. This seasons true spring colors (think Candyland) are wild violet, bold fuschia, daffodil yellow, vermillion orange, hibiscus red and cobalt blue. Tropical flavors, big and bold, and tribal prints make a comeback. A few leopard prints are also in the mix. Diane Von Furstenberg was a crowd pleaser with her gorgeous prints.

Accessories

Belts are everywhere - corset, skinny, whatever works for you. Headscarves and headbands,
brightly colored tote bags, bold colored shoes, flats, and platforms. Lots of gold jewelry, long pendant necklaces, lariat styles and big statement rings are popular.

Blue Jeans

America's favorite wardrobe staple! This season they are far from being basic. Lighten up! Last season dark washes ruled, now for spring chambray-like shades have a cool, casual feel. While skinny will still be in, the flare leg is going to be the next great thing. (Not a bell-bottom, but a really full leg.) I hope you enjoyed this Spring Fashion Preview.
